My Hair=Metaphor For My Life!

Is it any wonder that when my hair is in an awkward stage so is my life?!?!? Well, that is my current situation-I have been growing my hair out from a SUPER short pixie cut and this time I am not going to cut it. For the last 13 years I have had my hair short (except when I grew it out to my chin for my wedding 5 year ago and then chopped it off myself during our honeymoon).

My hair is how I express myself, it has been a variety of colors, different lengths of short and numerous styles for the last decade and thank goodness is has been short otherwise going back and forth with color would have been a tragedy with long hair!

But I decided months ago that I want to grow it out and this time I WOULD NOT GIVE IN TO CUTTING IT, not even in the awkward stage!!! Now I have arrived at the the awkward stage and that seems to be the theme in my life right now- I feel like I am waiting- not only waiting for my stupid hair to grow (I know kinda shallow!!) but waiting for what happens next, waiting for hard work to pay off, waiting for the outcome of decisions, waiting to get to the next chapter, waiting for the restlessness to go away, trying to be patient through setbacks and challenges. But I have decided to stick it out with my hair and just embrace the way it looks today- just like I have decided to stick it out with the current stage in my life- I have grand plans and big dreams that require patience and sticking it through - even during the awkward times.

Well.........all I can say is, you are so adorable that just about anything on the top of your head would work.

If your hair is currently the length it is in the top photo, you should know that my first thought in seeing it was, "Ah, I wish I could get my hair to look like that!" :)

I think I have a similar dilemma with hair - except in my case, I'm constantly searching for the one that suits me. The last time I really felt I had that was as a teen - I have really good hair for those "big bangs" 80's styles! haha!

I finally found a fantastic stylist I can afford... and he's helped through every awkward stage so far... not sure how long I want to let it grow now... but I can totally relate to your metaphor.

I like your hair the way it is now! That bit of length on it is beautiful! I agree with Karen though - you look gorgeous no matter what!

Loving your hair! my fav pic from the row is the first one, black with some red very rock chick!

I,m just as bad with mine.I,ve chopped it off about 3 -4 times. It used to be halfway down my back and i chopped it to pixie length when i was 18 and keep on chopping it at the akward stage, only to let it grow back when i,m pregnant.

Speaking of which, since i,m expecting my third child now i,m trying to get it to grow past my chin. I despeartely want to dye it red too! but will have to settle for a weave instead.

Keep being patient with the things in your life i,m sure your closer than you think to where you want to be.But when we are close to something it,s hard for us to see it. Keep on trucking Alisa!Dx

we all hate that awkward stage! i learned to just clip it back when i grew out my bangs-got my hair all one length then cut it off-...now it's growing again :)
and your hair always seems to look cute by the way~

Now I know that to follow your blog was an angel message, not because I love what you create, but all along I've been looking to see what your hair looked like! And I'm reminded of George Clooney, who I adore!, as Everett Ulysses McGill, in Oh Brother Where Art Thou and his obsession with his hair...and didn't he play another hair obsession role in another film?...Yes, I decided about six or seven weeks ago not to cut my hair. I've been wondering about your headbands, the wide ones in your portrait photos...I love your holiday bands...and once cut the sleeve off an extra large t-shirt to wear as a headband because of you, but got flack from my grown children. I am in the bangs almost in my eyes stage and loving it!

Hi!
I found your blog through Pinterest and I think this post was written for me.
This is the concept I have about the differents states of my hair, specially since some moments of my life. I thought I was the unique person with these thinkings.

Best wishes!

Love the new longer look. Do you have a perm or natural waves?

LOVE YOUR HAIR! YOU CAN PULL OFF ANY STYLE LONG OR SHORT...FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS I VOW TO LET MINE GROW THEN CUT IT OFF WHEN IT GETS TO THE AWKWARD STAGE ALSO B/C I JUST CANT DEAL W/ NOT FEELING LIKE MY HAIR LOOKS THE BEST THAT IT CAN BUT I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT AFTER SEEING THIS TUTORIAL ON THE TURBAN LOOK I WILL TRY IT AND THINK IT MAY JUST HELP ME NOT CUT MY HAIR BEFORE IT GROWS OUT! THANKS BEAUTIFUL!

hair as metaphor...mine is quite long...got tired of going to stylists that didn't cut my hair as I would like, plus I started taking care of my mom...the length of my hair is about three years now, plus every time I start to think about cutting my hair, I realize that my hair will never be this color again. Thanks...I needed this insight.

my dear.....YOU must be my long-lost twin! Freaky to me that another woman feels about her hair, the way that I do! Thank you for making me know that I'm not the only one whose hair is such a huge part of who she feels she is, or isn't! I'm in your very boat.....but DO know that you ARE every bit as wonderful a woman, with no hair or Rapunzel-esque hair! (Note to self: read what you just wrote!) LOL!!!
Your hair looks great as is....and think back to how annoying it is when it grows and starts being a 24/7 bother because you can feel it. Short hair has MANY perks....one of which, is that you can fix it and go....and know that you look quite cool! Same cannot be said for longer hair; it often just lays there like dead grass...not a pretty picture to visualize on your head! YIKES!!!
